Pico the Parrot at the Botanical Gardens
Join Pico as he visits one of San Diego’s most iconic locations, the lily pond in front of the Botanical Building in Balboa Park. Construction of the facility began in 1913, was largely complete by July 1914, and the building and gardens opened to the public for the Panama–California Exposition on January 1, 1915. It is one of the largest lath (wood-slat) structures in the world.
In this scene from Pico the Parrot, Pico asks the fish if he knows the way to the Coronado Library. The fish replies, “No, I’m just a fish!”
This illustration is part of the ongoing Pico the Parrot series, celebrating the people, landmarks, and spirit of San Diego through the eyes of everyone’s favorite yellow-naped parrot.
